The earliest spelling I have found of a member of the family is John Besonet, Sr. But, there are several other variations of the name:
Besonet...is the name in France
Bessonett...mostly in Pennsylvania records
Bessonette...mostly in Mississippi records
de Bessonette....mostly in Louisiana records
There is a similar name found in the U.S. ...Bissonet... but that family does not appear to be related to the Bessonett family.
